What is a Comprehensive School Counseling Program?
A comprehensive school counseling program is an integral component of the school’s mission. Comprehensive school counseling programs, driven by student data and based on the ASCA National Model:
- Ensure equitable access to a rigorous education for all students
- Identify the knowledge and skills all students will acquire as a result of the K–12 comprehensive school counseling program
- Are delivered to all students in a systematic fashion
- Are based on data-driven decision making
- Are provided by a state-credentialed school counselors
The mission of the Minooka Junior High School Counseling Department is to inspire all students to reach their highest potential as critical thinkers, problem solvers and to be productive citizens in their school and communities now and in the future. The school counseling program will provide developmentally appropriate activities that include core curriculum lessons, individual counseling, and small group counseling that support student success and encourage student leadership. All students will be treated equitably, with respect and fairness by all counselors, staff members, and peers. Lastly, the school counseling program is founded upon the ASCA mindsets, behaviors, and standards.
The vision of the Minooka Junior High School Counseling Program is for all students to grow and develop the skills needed to become positive, goal-driven leaders in society. In the future our students will continue to serve as role models in their communities by demonstrating an empathetic culture built on kindness and respect. Our students will continue to utilize and adapt to ever changing technology as well as serving as examples for a positive social media presence. As a result of our comprehensive school counseling program, our students will embrace the diversity in the world around them, continue as life-long learners, and will work collaboratively to achieve success in all chosen endeavors.
